Myth: Social Security

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – July 31 –

There are those that live in some kind of a fantasy world. They know that the Social Security Trust fund has been replaced by funny money. Yet they will defend what has happened. In a manner of speaking; the real money has been spent, and now we are facing reality. Social Security recipients have been left holding the bag.

It is irritating to me to hear about how wonderful Franklin D. Roosevelt was. Well, Social Security as it exists right now is a  memorial to a myth. According to this article; not one myth, but 5 myths.

“Over the years, the surplus has been lent to the federal government to pay for other programs”

Over the years, the surplus has been lent to the federal government to pay for other programs. In return, the trust fund received IOUs in the form of special-issue, interest-paying Treasury bonds. These bonds are backed by the full faith and credit of the U.S. government, just as regular Treasurys are.

I'll wait until the debt limit issue is resolved to find out whether: "These bonds are backed by the full faith and credit of the U.S. government". It seems to me that the credit card of the United States is in question. If the full faith and credit is viewed as risky, then the IOU's aren't worth what they are said to be. “The trust fund has been replaced with IOU’s is truthful.” To pretend that the IOU’s represent the same value as the value of the money borrowed is untruthful.

The IOU’s are risky, and the money borrowed, wasn’t risky at the time it was borrowed.

House Defeats Reid's Debt Bill as Hopes Remain for Compromise

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – July 30 –
The House has defeated the Reid debt limit bill 246-173.
Now, the Senate is gearing up:
But Reid is still hoping that his version, which would raise the debt limit by $2.4 trillion while cutting spending by $2.2 trillion, will pass the Senate, beginning with a test vote in the wee hours of Sunday morning to break a GOP filibuster.
The outcome of the weekend endgame was anything but clear as Democrats and Republicans remain at odds over how to force lawmakers to come up with additional budget savings later this year beyond the almost $1 trillion in agency budget cuts over the coming decade that they basically agree on.

Just Who’s The Boss?

Obama cut cap balance

Yesterday I wrote an article:

They've Lost That Lovin' Feeling

Is the “unloved” the boss, or are “They” the boss. That is the question. The answer is “They”.

There is no question that my wife is the boss. So, why do we allow the unloved to boss us around. Answer: We have been manipulated so long, and so totally, that the sheep are controlled by the shepherd and his dogs.

This brings me to taxation. Who’s boss? Does Congress and the President tell us how much we are going to pay them, or do we tell them how much we are going to pay? I saw a comment, which said in effect that the constitution gives government the right to tax. That’s true, but the boss has a way to change the constitution, if enough people want to change it. Who’s the boss? Am I to believe that balancing the budget cannot be put into the constitution. If it happens, who’s the boss?

Reid has backed off taxes in his debt crisis bill is my understanding. I don’t know his reasoning, but is it an admission that taxing is the right of the people and not Congress or the President? If it is I welcome it.

This is a Capitalist country, but President transformer has succeeded in getting Obamacare passed. Government will be in control of health care. What’s next? Automobile manufacturing would be a likely target. Do we want the automobile industry to be a government sponsored enterprise like Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac? I think we should get the government out of the health care business. Greece had a government operated electricity company. It is my understanding that the government operated electricity company in Greece has been privatized. That means that the government is no longer the boss in producing electricity in Greece. President Obama and company have succeeded in interfering with American Electric Power. President transformer said, “The cost of electricity will skyrocket”.

The people should rise up and show him who is the boss in the United States of America.

They've Lost That Lovin' Feeling

Obama Nobody Loves

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – July 29 –

Righteous Brothers You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin' (45 RPM)

Peggy Noonan has attempted to put into words a description of President Obama. She is one in a long list of people, who have done the same thing. I humbly submit that where there is smoke, there is fire. The list of prominent people, who view President in an unfavorable light, is substantial. Peggy uses the word sly.

“In a crisis he was merely sly. And no one likes sly, no one respects it.”

The image reflects the cartoonist’s vision of President Obama. A tear in his eye, a memory of being a rock star, and a broken heart; they’ve lost that lovin’ feeling. Here’s  another cartoon. I had second thoughts about putting it up, but it reflects another cartoonists vision of President Obama.

Boehner Bill Delayed

boehner bill delayed

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – July 29 –

I will try to keep you posted on what happens with this bill.

I kept an eye on it last night. They put up a notice on C Span that it had been delayed, and also put up a notice that it would probably be voted on last night.

I read this morning that they will probably vote on it today.

They broadcasted the debate in the Senate. Schumer spoke and said that the debt ceiling should be raised, just like it always has been in the past. I don't think so. He also derided Boehner's attempts. Lamar Alexander presented the Republican side. I just checked The Federal Register and July 27 came up. Schumer and Alexander's debate will probably be on the Internet tomorrow. At any rate, the party line talking points were evident.

Michelle Bachman will not vote for Boehner’s bill. She has taken the position that the debt limit should not be raised at all. She says she will see what Boehner and Reid come up with.

“We will maintain the full faith and credit of the United States of America," she predicted.

Bachmann reiterated that she would not support a plan being pushed by Republican House Speaker John Boehner because it would increase the debt limit, which she adamantly opposes, in exchange for spending cuts. She also said it doesn't reduce spending enough.

As president, she said she would be "willing to say no" to more taxes and spending.

"I won't raise taxes; I will reduce spending, and I won't vote to raise the debt ceiling. And I have the titanium spine to see it through," she said.

$14,342,830,116,551.28 Debt July 26, 2011 2 years 7 months

We have spent, spent, and spent. We have accumulated a debt, which the rich alone cannot pay off.

Where did the money go? Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, Food Stamps, Health Care of Illegals, Highways and bridges, Education, Wars, Growing numbers of Federal Employees, unions, foreign aid, and endless government services. We only paid 60 percent and borrowed or printed 40 percent. We spent a dollar and borrowed 40 cents.

Who did it? It doesn’t matter. It’s on the books.

Who do we owe it to? China is one of our main creditors, and there are a huge number of other investors.

Republicans are probably going to pass a bill today to try to control the $14 trillion debt. How do they want to control it? They want to cut expenses, cap expenses to stop them from growing, and they want to make use of the constitution to prevent excessive spending in the future.

What does our President want to do? He wants to build a high speed train system, which will not entirely be paid for. He wants to spend money on green technology with partially borrowed money, He has said that he wants to spend billions in foreign aid. He has spent almost $1 trillion on a stimulus. Another stimulus has been discussed. He has already spent a lot of money on roads, part of which is borrowed or printed.

The President and Democrats have an unusual thought process. Suppose that I have $60,000 in income, and I owe $10,000 on my credit card. If I have a problem paying, the problem is: I didn’t get a raise. I’m referring to extending the tax cuts to the rich, which essentially would be a raise for the government if terminated.

The problem is not the debt, the problem is: I didn’t get a raise!

Views of a 24 Year Old

24 year old 1

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – July 26 –

I heard a young man from Kentucky on the radio today. He said that he loved taxes, and all the wonderful things they provided in his life. He mentioned highways and roads, police, fire fighters, libraries, and a lot of other things. The host of the program argued that the government was taking his money and spending it. He argued that the man earned a dollar, and the government took 30 cents in taxes. He argued that the dollar was the young man’s and not the government’s. He argued that if only twenty cents would be taken by the government,  he would have more of his own money to spend on himself. The young man aggressively disagreed.

I thought about the event, and decided that the young man paid 60 cents in taxes, the government borrowed 40 cents, and one dollar of government benefits resulted. This assumes that the government did not waste both the taxes and the borrowed money. We all know that government gets their fingers in the till.

Perhaps the propensity of young people to support government spending comes from the situation I described. They get a false sense of satisfaction by benefitting from government borrowing. The borrowing has hit a snag, and young people have the false notion that borrowing by government will go on forever. We are finding out that it can’t and won’t go on forever.

Big Debt Ceiling Increase = Tax and Spend

obama boehner debt talk

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – July 24 –

The debt ceiling limit boils down to these two ideas.

  1. Tax and spend
  2. Cut, cap, and balance

Yesterday I wrote an article about Myth: Tax the Rich. Tax and spend relies upon that myth. If the people in this country can be mislead into believing that they have a savior in the rich. Then taxing and spending will prevail. Here is a quote from Walter Williams article:

According to IRS statistics, roughly 2% of U.S. households have an income of $250,000 and above. By the way, $250,000 per year hardly qualifies one as being rich. It's not even yacht and Learjet money.

All told, households earning $250,000 and above account for 25%, or $1.97 trillion, of the nearly $8 trillion of total household income. If Congress imposed a 100% tax, taking all earnings above $250,000 per year, it would yield the princely sum of $1.4 trillion. That would keep the government running for 141 days, but there's a problem because there are 224 more days left in the year.

How about corporate profits to fill the gap? Fortune 500 companies earn nearly $400 billion in profits. Since leftists think profits are little less than theft and greed, Congress might confiscate these ill-gotten gains so that they can be returned to their rightful owners.

Taking corporate profits would keep the government running for another 40 days, but that along with confiscating all income above $250,000 would only get us to the end of June. Congress must search elsewhere.

According to the Forbes 400, America has 400 billionaires with a combined net worth of $1.3 trillion. Congress could confiscate their stocks and bonds, and force them to sell their businesses, yachts, airplanes, mansions and jewelry. The problem is that after fleecing the rich of their income and net worth, and the Fortune 500 corporations of their profits, it would only get us to mid-August.

The fact of the matter is there are not enough rich people to come anywhere close to satisfying Congress' voracious spending appetite. They're going to have to go after the non-rich.

The tax the rich scheme is a house of cards. The financial reality will huff and puff and blow the house down. The non rich are the ones, who will end up paying the bill. Almost 50 percent of the non rich, pay no income taxes. You can’t get blood out of a turnip.

Face it: The United States is broke.

The United States is at the mercy of China, and investors.

The pie in the sky idea has been or should have been shot down.

The cut, cap, and balance idea passed the House, was voted down in the Senate, and the President wants just the opposite, tax and spend.

I’d bet that some version of tax and spend will prevail. In the end, tax and spend will lead to the collapse of our country. Entitlements will be lost, which could have been saved with cut, cap, and balance.

Myth: Tax the Rich

spending

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – July 22 –

One of the widely held beliefs among many citizens is, that the rich will provide freebies or anything they want. It’s a myth.

It’s a big time myth of the Democrats and President Obama.

I like Walter Williams, and I have linked to an article by Walter. There are a bunch of other links along the same lines.

A look at what has happened in the world in this regard will provide evidence of how good taxing the rich is. Did they tax the rich in Greece in their current financial trouble? Answer yes. Yes, but it was only a portion of the taxes raised. Taxes were raised on everyone. Then there’s Minnesota. Minnesota was shut down primarily due to a dispute over taxing the rich. The governor wanted to tax the rich, but he failed. He has reluctantly agreed to negotiate with the legislature.

When I receive comments, in the future, about taxing the rich, I’ll post a link to this article.

Now, let’s see how many comments defend taxing the rich. Let’s see how many Democrats want to use tax the rich as a solution to our debt problems.

President Obama has already adopted the idea of taxing the rich. Walter Williams and what happened in Greece refutes his idea.

Mr. President: Stop Trying to Transform America

Obama: "Fundamentally Transforming the United States of America"

Barack Obama Constitution quote IN CONTEXT!

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – July 22 –

We have a president, who dislikes our country. Otherwise, why would he attempt to transform it?

I like the country we had, and I believe that there are a lot of like minded people.

The constitution provided for a way to change the constitution. President Obama has not recommended using amendments to the constitution. Instead, he ignores the constitution, or tries to find a way to circumvent it.

Obamacare is one example. It has been forced down the country’s throat. It may or may not be declared unconstitutional,  but judge Robert Vinson has declared it unconstitutional in his ruling. 26 states have filed suit against Obamacare.

The President was a community organizer. He was intimately involved with ACORN. What happened to ACORN? Was ACORN part of the attempt to transform our country?

The President taught Alinsky tactics. Alinsky was a communist. The President and his wife have made statements about the world as it should be. “The world as it should be” is an Alinsky idea.

Maybe President Obama should amend the constitution to state “the world as it should be” as a national goal.

I don’t normally send email to my representatives, but I’m going to send one to Bob Casey(D), with a link to this article.

Rick Santorum(R) was my representative; gone. Arlen Spector(?) was my representative; gone. Ed Rendell(D)  was my governor; gone. I expect a vote against the cut, cap, and balance bill by you.

I will vote against your reelection, and I will use what little influence I have to make you “gone” also, if you vote against cut, cap, and balance.

I admire spending reduction worldwide. Puerto Rico is an outstanding example of reduced government spending, as is Canada and others. I don’t admire “bluffing”, taxes, and big spending. Perhaps, I will send a link to the White House.

There will be comments on this article, and I may add some comments to the article itself as it develops.

Wynn CEO Goes On Epic Anti-Obama Rant On Company Conference Call
I just Googled Steve Wynn.  He graduated from college in 1963. His father died from open heart surgery, and he took over the family’s bingo business. He graduated from the bingo business to Las Vegas casinos.

The guy keeps making speeches about redistribution and maybe we ought to do something to businesses that don't invest, their holding too much money. We haven't heard that kind of talk except from pure socialists. Everybody's afraid of the government and there's no need soft peddling it, it's the truth. It is the truth. And that's true of Democratic businessman and Republican businessman, and I am a Democratic businessman and I support Harry Reid.

Wynn is also chairman of the Moran Eye Institute at the University of Utah and a member of the Advisory Board at the canter for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, D.C. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the University of Pennsylvania, on the Board of the George Bush Presidential Library and most recently, was named Vice Chairman of the Kennedy Canter’s 2000 Corporate Fund Board. Canada, Puerto Rico: Cut Spending and Taxes

spending

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – July 18 –

Here are two good examples of responsible leadership. They didn’t get that way with huge increases in the debt limit and additional taxes.

Luis Fortuno  has cut spending in Puerto Rico. 17,000 public workers have been laid off. Government programs and procedures have been simplified, and some government functions have been privatized.

Canada had a large debt and spending problem. They’re in good shape now.

This information was on “Money Hole” by John Stossel on Fox News on Sunday July 17, 2011.

President Obama could or should have this information available to him. I doubt that it would change his behavior from what he has committed himself to most of his life. If you agree with President Obama’s ideas; fine. I don’t.

President Obama Lied About His Mother’s Pre Existing Condition; According to a New Book

obama mother pre existing

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – July 17 –

WILDWONDERFUL just alerted me to this information. It came out last Thursday on Newsvine, but I missed it. MSNBC

The White House on Wednesday declined to challenge an account in a new book that suggests that President Obama, in his campaign to overhaul American health care, mischaracterized a central anecdote about his mother’s deathbed dispute with her insurance company.

The author seems to be legitimate, so attacks on the messenger won’t be easy. Also, there is documented evidence to support her claims.

I’m prejudiced, so the less I say, the better.

I’ve been using the following quote by Cicero in my comments:

A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banners openly against the city. But the traitor moves among those within the gates freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears no traitor; he speaks in the accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their garments, and he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation; he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of a city; he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist.
— Marcus Cicero, speaking to Caesar, Crassus, Pompey and the Roman Senate.

I think that that quote is appropriate for this article.

Big Time Spender-Gambler

obama call bluff

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – July 17 –

President Obama: “Don’t call my bluff”

This is an admission that the President of the United States is gambling. One of the gambles he is taking is that the interest rates on the United States debt will increase; dramatically. The interest on the debt is $251 billion. The average interest rate was around 3 percent in June, 2011. If the US credit rating is changed, the interest rate is estimated to go up 0.25 percent. If the interest bill was $30 billion; it would go to $40 billion. $251 billion would go up to $335 billion. Imagine what the interest payment would be if the rate went up 1 percent or more instead of 0.25 percent.

The president of the United States wants what he thinks would be good for him and his party. A big debt limit increase with increased taxes. A bit of caution would be nice. A small increase with a balanced budget. That hasn’t happened in the past, but the Republicans are going to try to pass a bill in the House in the next few days, which would do just that.

So take your pick. Proceed with caution or accept president Obama’s bluff. If president Obama’s bluff is accepted, the results might be like the results of forced austerity in Greece.

Tax and Spend or Spending Cuts?

Greece riot austerity

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – July 16 –

White House:

increase the debt ceiling long enough to get the country through 2012, when Obama and most lawmakers are up for re-election.

No, put the heat on them to cut spending.

I’m taking the position that more taxes and spending is irresponsible. Now is the time to demonstrate to Moody’s, China, and the world that the United States of America has common sense. A friend of mine suggested that the President may be afflicted with megalomania.[1] His spending has used up any wiggle room that we had in the debt ceiling limit. Now, President Obama wants to continue on the taxing and spending course that has put the country’s credit in jeopardy. Taxing and spending shut down Minnesota. Spending resulted in austerity in Greece. Spending resulted in rioting in Greece. Taxing and spending are being cut in Wisconsin, Ohio, New Jersey, Indiana, and, yes, even California. Taxing and spending are the easy way out in politics. Moody’s, China, and others may punish all of us for politicians taking the tax and spend route. We all may suffer many hardships as a result of politician’s behavior. We all may suffer many hardships, if President Obama is allowed to try to fundamentally transform America.

Debt Ceiling: July 7, 2011

Obama walks

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – July 15 –

There is a possibility that McConnell’s “Plan B” may be used.

Specifically, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Kentucky, proposes a shift in how government raises debt ceilings, resting the decision and power more with the White House. McConnell's plan would allow the debt ceiling to go up if a) the president requests a specific increase, b) the president submits proposed budget cuts in an amount greater than the debt ceiling increase and c) if two-thirds of Congress does not vote against it (if one-third supports the debt ceiling increase).

The two leaders are considering an attachment of $1 trillion to $1.5 trillion in spending cuts. And they are talking about a commission or group that would propose spending cuts and possibly wider reform.

If this plan passes the Senate, it is possible that the House would vote against it.

There could be a short term deal.

This plan would cover months, three months, or more. The plans would raise the debt ceiling, but require spending cuts. Revenue changes would be a possibility. President Obama has said he would veto this type of plan.

There could be legislation.

House Republicans emerged from a lengthy closed-door meeting Friday with plans to vote on legislation next week that would link a $2.4-trillion debt ceiling increase with a spending cut proposal and balanced budget amendment, proposals President Obama and Democrats have dismissed.

It seems to me that if the legislation above gets through the Senate, it would be vetoed by President Obama.

The Budget of Norway: Common Sense

budget Norway

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – July 15 –

I looked up Norway this morning.

They spend less in their budget than they take in. That is common sense. We are forced to do it in our private lives. The states are also forced to balance their budgets. I don’t really know or care whether Norway is forced to balance it’s budget, but they did in this case.

Education, which teaches how to behave, has failed miserably in the United States. Most of the politicians in the United States do not behave properly. They were not taught how to behave. Otherwise, they would have behaved differently than they did.

We have spent more in the United States than we have taken in in revenue.

President Obama wants to increase the debt limit and increase taxes. His behavior was not changed by his education. He should. instead. be looking for a way to spend only the revenue, which we have coming in, as they do in Norway.

Greece is being taught how to behave. Mark Dayton in Minnesota is learning how to behave.

Putin, Moody’s, and China do not approve of the behavior of the United States.

Boehner, McConnell, Cantor, and about 236 House Republicans do not approve of the behavior of the United States.

Tax and Spend: Obama, McConnell, Moody’s, China, Putin

putin hooligans

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – July 14 –

President Obama is a big time tax and spender. He spent almost a trillion dollars on the stimulus, and I believe he would do it again, if he could get away with it. The President is a graduate of Harvard, but that doesn’t mean a thing. He’s addicted to spending as was the case with Greece. Greece is in austerity mode, and spending is under attack. Portugal, Spain, and Italy are some of the prominent nations with current spending problems. Right here at home we have Minnesota, which is shut down, which has problems due to the big spender Mark Dayton, a Democrat. Democrats have a long history of addiction to taxing and spending, but it will come to a halt, as it did in Greece and Minnesota.

Mitch McConnell:

The Senate's top Republican said Tuesday that he did not see a way for Republicans and Democrats to come to agreement on meaningful deficit reduction as long as President Obama remains in office.

"After years of discussions and months of negotiations, I have little question that as long as this president is in the Oval Office, a real solution is probably unattainable," Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell said in remarks on the Senate floor.

Moody’s:

Moody's Investors Service on Wednesday threatened to lower the United States' credit rating, saying there is a small but rising risk that the government will default on its debt.

China:

BEIJING — Chinese credit ratings agency Dagong said Thursday it had put US sovereign debt on negative watch for a possible downgrade -- following a similar move by Moody's the previous day.

Putin:

They are behaving like hooligans, switching on the printing press and tossing them around the whole world, forgetting their main obligations.”

The Debt Ceiling Wednesday July 13, 2011

Carney july 13 2011

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – July 13 –

I have been looking at articles concerning the debt ceiling during the day.

Some Democrats like the proposal by Mitch McConnell, which proposed allowing the president to raise the debt limit before August 2, again in the fall and in the summer of 2012. The White House said that the plan was not the preferred option.

Newt Gingrich came up with a proposal to increase the debt limit $100 billion each month, with corresponding spending cuts, consecutively.

President Obama held his daily meeting again today. Still photographers were allowed to take pictures, but video cameras and other types of reporters weren't allowed. I didn't see any reports of progress.

Many people think a default by the US government would be similar in some respects to the shutdown in Minnesota. It was reported today that some beer distributors in Minnesota may be shut down.

President Obama’s idea that any short term proposals are off the table may earn him a reputation of being unreasonable. The acceptance of Mitch McConnell’s proposal by Reid, Pelosi, and other Democrats sheds a light upon President Obama. Insistence on tax or revenue increases led to the shutdown of Minnesota by Democrat Mark Dayton. Insistence on tax or revenue increases by President Obama could lead to catastrophe August 2, if Geithner is correct.

Government is not the solution to problems, it is the problem. Ronald Reagan

Holder Does It; Again

Holder Graham

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – July 12 –

GOP senators bash Holder’s decision to give civilian trial to Somali terrorist
Holder apparently will persist in his efforts to try to try terrorists in civilian courts. The failure of his attempt to have Khalid Sheikh Mohammed tried in New York City didn’t teach him anything. There may be more Senators, who will sign the letter.

I will try to follow the details of this most recent “Holder” event.

Holder also did not attempt to punish Black Panther intimidators at polling booths. He tried CIA interrogators for crimes in questioning terrorist prisoners; harmed the interrogators and the CIA.

Alan West has sent a letter to President Obama demanding that he force Holder to resign.

Holder was also involved in the pardon of Marc Rich.

Lindsey Graham Destroys Eric Holder.

President Obama can “take what he has and clothe it in moral garb”. President Obama is not moral in his support of Holder. Eric Holder exemplifies the type of administration operative President Obama desires.

President Obama should be punished by limiting his presidency to one term.

39 Senators and Alan West dislike what Holder is doing. Several CIA directors have voiced their opposition to Holder.

President Obama’s Press Conference July 11, 2011

obama press conference

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – July 11 –

There wasn’t any progress toward solving the debt ceiling crisis.

President Obama did take the position that he would consider cuts to entitlements. He also surprised me when he said in effect; all the progressive stuff progressives want are fine, but there is one problem.

The problem is how to pay for them.

I didn’t hear a capitalist, free enterprise, free market speaker. I did hear a spread the wealth around, tax the rich, Democrat, speaker. However, he did say that he would try to convince Democrats to cut entitlement spending. On a different note, he wants Boehner to convince the Republicans in the House to go along with tax increases.

Good picture?

Obama Boehner Pelosi

Boehner looks very confident in this picture. Here’s the link under the picture.

The most significant information in the previous link is:

There will be a meeting at 6 PM Sunday, Eastern Time, in the White House.

Assuming that the meeting will end a couple hours after 6 PM, I will attempt to find out any information I can find at that time.

Mr. Boehner still will attend a negotiating session at the White House set for 6 p.m. Sunday, but his declaration appears to shatter Mr. Obama’s effort to pursue the largest possible deficit reduction deal of $4 trillion over 10 years by including tax hikes. Earlier talks led by Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. had reached consensus on about $2 trillion in deficit reduction through spending cuts.

Would anyone like to argue that progressives have not had an influence on the condition our country is in?

Somewhere around 70 percent of the people say the country is headed in the wrong direction. The debt has put our country on the verge of collapse. Joblessness is a big problem. Free speech is threatened. The tenth amendment has been disregarded. Would you say education in the US is successful, or would you say it may be part of the joblessness problem?

Please take a look at “Antonyms:” above.

I would add regressive to the words listed.

Fraidy Cat

spending

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – July 8 –

A trillion here and a trillion there.

The last stimulus was nearly a trillion dollars. It came from two primary sources; printing money and borrowing. It is arguable that some of it came from taxes. The zeal for both printing money and borrowing has dried up. The United States government is afraid that it has reached its borrowing limit. Apparently, it is afraid that it has reached its money printing limit.

Now, we have a wonderful speaker, nicely dressed, clothed in moral garb, squirming in a daunting situation. The President of the United States, George Soros, Democrats, and others are not in control any more. The economy and financing are.

Greece was in a similar situation, and at least President Obama is well aware of it. The immediate result in Greece has been austerity. The President of the United States knows it. This is the reason there is not another grandiose scheme to borrow and print another trillion dollars right now. They have reached the end of the line. Their bluff has been called.

If Franklin Delano Roosevelt was alive, he’d be in the same predicament, I can’t help but wonder what he would do. His wonderful Social Security is in jeopardy. It was wonderful, but we may see major changes in it. Supporters of big time spending will wail and gnash their teeth, but austerity will prevail in the end.

Democrats will try to blame it on Republicans, but in the end the fear of the consequence of borrowing and printing money will prevail. Austerity will prevail.

An attempt to temporarily delay borrowing and spending could occur.

The time will come when big time spending and excess borrowing and printing money will come to a halt.

President Obama and the Democrats won’t spend another trillion dollars, because they can see the handwriting on the wall.

Austerity will prevail. Why not now?

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – July 7 –

I'm going to post a video, which records speeches in the US Senate yesterday. Video

It's about twenty minutes in length.

On July 6, 2011, U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) joined Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) to speak on the Senate floor about jobs and the debt.

The President is Working Hard-Against Free Speech

These topics were listed in a previous article.

Since writing that article, I became aware of the following:

Attacking Freedom of Speech

But the most insidious effect of the president’s draft executive order is its stifling of free speech.

Former Supreme Court Justice Hugo Black, in one of his most poignant concurring opinions, enunciated the crux of the First Amendment’s right to the freedom of speech: “That Amendment provides, in simple words, that ‘Congress shall make no law . . . abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press.’ I read ‘no law . . . abridging’ to mean no law abridging.”2 Although the Supreme Court’s jurisprudence has proceeded in fits and starts, occasionally sliding back into allowing more onerous regulations impinging—and dare we say, “abridging”—the freedom of speech, any honest study of the First Amendment’ tumultuous history must conclude that it has been a long, slow climb back toward the absolute freedom of speech envisioned by the Framers and explicated clearly by the constitutional text.

But, like the giant boulder of Sisyphean legend, President Obama’s draft executive order attempts to push the First Amendment back down into the valley of arbitrary speech restrictions. And what the president could not succeed in doing through the proper legislative avenues, he now attempts to do through fiat with an executive order that, if successful, would chill and suppress core political speech—the very same speech which was years ago decided to be the most important expression in need of protection in the entire marketplace of ideas.

One cure for this executive order would be to reverse it, by a newly elected president.

Pittsburgh, Our New Old Home

Pittsburgh

We moved to Pittsburgh in 1973. At that time, Allegheny county was one of the wealthiest counties in the United States. We moved here from Houston, Texas, by accident.

I bought a truck, a diesel truck, in Houston. When I fueled up in Fredericksburg, Virginia, the attendant put gasoline in the truck. The truck quit running near Pittsburgh. I put the truck in a shop, and one of the local people offered me a job driving his truck. I went to work for him, sold my damaged truck after it was repaired, and bought another truck of my own within about a year. We bought a house near Pittsburgh, and the kids went to school here. My daughter had a Texas accent, and one of my sons was nicknamed “Tex”. Tex lives near Pittsburgh now, and my daughter lives here, but her Texas accent is long gone.

My daughter graduated from college, Robert Morris, in Pittsburgh. One of my sons went to a vocational high school here, and took food preparation. He’s still in Scottsdale, Arizona, but he still “cooks” more than the average person.

We lived in Pittsburgh nearly three decades. We sold our house near Pittsburgh, and moved to Hammond, Indiana for a few years. We spent about five years in Jacksonville, Florida, and 5 more years in Scottsdale, Arizona. Now, we’re back in Pittsburgh.

We live in a townhouse, which is nice. The community has a community center with an indoor heated pool, exercise facilities, meeting rooms, a library, and sports facilities. Our housing project has nice landscaping, exercise facilities, and a large outdoor heated pool.

There’s a large selection of restaurants, and malls nearby.

We live near the “Butler” exit 5 on the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

$287,000 Per Job Created

Obama 287 thousand Dollars

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – July 5 –

President Obama is right; this is not a example of American exceptionalism. This is not Bush’s fault. President Obama and his advisors concocted a plan. They bragged about the millions of jobs created or saved. They even predicted 8% unemployment.  I’ve seen it everywhere, endlessly. Now, it turns out that each job cost $287,000. If I was President Obama, I would hang my head in shame, and at least admit that the cost was preposterous. Thank God I’m not him for more reasons than one..

By the way, Rush Limbaugh made a speech in Joplin Missouri yesterday. He praised the citizens of Joplin for their exceptionalism. Drug addicts, fat people, and Conservatives can give intelligent speeches, and promote conservatism. He urged them to be individuals, and not dependent on government.

Selection from the speech transcript:

    MAN: Freedom!

    MAN: Liberty!

    WOMAN: Freedom!

RUSH: I heard a key word here a moment ago.

    AUDENCE: Liberty! Freedom!

RUSH: The word is "freedom," but I want you to stop and think about something very seriously: This country has produced opportunity and prosperity unlike any the world has ever seen before. The first reason is our Founders -- this country is a miracle. Our Founders believed in the power of the individuals not the power of an elite government --

    AUDIENCE: (cheers and applause)

RUSH: -- to dictate for people.

AUDIENCE: (cheers and applause) RUSH: The power of the individual. They knew that people using their God-given gifts -- their own ambition and desires -- could exceed their own expectations, could realize their dreams, and in so doing create the best and most prosperous country in the history of civilization. But there's one other element to American exceptionalism. This is a term, when people bandy it about, they think, "Well, we're better than everybody else. We're exceptional." That's not what it means. The history of the world is oppression, tyranny, dungeons. Not here. We are an exception to the way human beings have always lived on this planet. This is a nation blessed by God.

    AUDIENCE: (cheers and applause)

RUSH: This is our exceptionalism. This is not a country chosen by God; we are blessed by God because our Founders -- it's all in our Declaration, folks. "We are all endowed by our Creator," there it is, "with certain inalienable rights, among them Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness."

    AUDIENCE: (applause)

RUSH: That's all up to us. This country turns America loose, it turns individuals loose, and look what has happened in 235 years. We, even to this day, run the world but we do it benevolently. We liberate people from tyranny. When there is a disaster anywhere in the world, we are the first to arrive. Now...

    AUDIENCE: (applause)

RUSH: You -- those of you here tonight from Joplin, Missouri --

    AUDIENCE: (cheers and applause)

RUSH: You may not know it yet, but you are the essence of what the Founding Fathers had in mind.

Reagan Statues, Strauss-Kahn, Chavez…and More

 Reagan Statue Britain
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – July 5 –
I don’t want to rain on the parade, but how much money do you think was spent on fireworks in the United States yesterday? What do we have to show for it?
In a speech, Mr. McCarthy described Mr. Reagan’s fight not only against the forces of Communism, but against the “tyranny” of debt and big government. He and Mrs. Thatcher, he said, “did not move to the center to gather votes, they moved the center to them.”
Will Obama be honored with statues in the future?
Strauss-Kahn: I haven’t paid much attention to this. However, there seems to be an interesting development. Strauss-Kahn is probably going to be sued by another women, in France.
Chavez had a tumor removed in Cuba, and it looks like he will continue treatment for cancer.

Attack: Mr. Halperin called Obama a d..k. Obama's aides called Mr. Halperin's boss.

Radical-in-Chief: Barack Obama and the Untold Story of American Socialism Book

There was an incident where Mark Halperin Calls Obama A Dick | Morning Joe Obama Dick | Video | I’m not going to argue the merits of Mark Halperin’s case, but I am going to point out that the White House made it known that MSNBC and Halperin had acted inappropriately. The Supreme Court has found that the Westboro Baptist Church can protest at funerals. In the previous link it says they called Obama the Antichrist. The Westboro Baptist church called Obama the Antichrist, and Mark Halperin got caught calling Obama a dick. Contrast the two. At any rate, we have government getting in the way of free speech.
Jay Carney said: 'The comment that was made was inappropriate. It would be inappropriate to say that about any president of either party. And on behalf of the White House, I expressed that sentiment to executives at the network.'

Do you want the United States to uphold free speech? Think very carefully about who you are going to vote for in 2012!

    Ignorance is bliss definition
Not knowing something is often more comfortable than knowing it.
    Idioms and Phrases
    ignorance is bliss
What you don't know won't hurt you. For example, She decided not to read the critics' reviews ignorance is bliss . Although its truth may be dubious at best, this idea has been expressed since ancient times. The actual wording, however, comes from Thomas Gray's poem, "Ode on a Distant Prospect of Eton College" (1742): "Where ignorance is bliss, 'tis folly to be wise."

“As hunger is cured by food, so ignorance is cured by study”. Chinese proverb
I am not the brightest bulb in the room, but I try to learn from authority. If you want to know something, read what others have found. Look at the experiences of others. Analyze what has happened to others.
The United States faces a debt crisis. Minnesota faced and is facing a debt crisis. The government of Minnesota is shut down. The same thing could happen to the United States government. Please read the article unless it is more comfortable not knowing.
The governor of Minnesota proposed tax increases; the legislators opposed tax increases. Does that sound familiar? Obama proposes tax increases. The House is opposed to tax increases.
The protesters in Greece didn’t want austerity; cuts in spending, privatization,  and tax increases. The government passed cuts in spending, privatization, and tax increases. The rioters damaged stores and property. Now, tourism will be harmed. So, some money from tourists will not help the Greek economy. The protesters will lose. What you don’t know won’t hurt you.
There are a significant number of people, who are more comfortable not knowing what is apt to happen in the United States and elsewhere.
